The hinge is crimped at both ends so it cannot be pushed out.As much as I enjoy my 3 rod vault I would recommend  this to anyone that fishes as much as I do, when the fishing is going off I am fishing easily 4 to 6 days a week.If your thinking about it I would say buy it as all my friends are pretty envious of mine when they see how easy it is to grab a pre-rigged rod and quickly get to fishing. Having built Rod Vaults and owning a River Quiver, I think that the River Quiver is superior in multiple ways; build, installation and the locking mechanism. Based on a quick look at the tubes it looks like it is PVC wrapped with the aluminum tube which dampens vibration and protects the rods, also a nice feature. On the positive side-  We are fortunate there still are good companies in the Fly Fishing industry and Sage was willing to work with me on the broken and missing sections. I will say that the bolts provided to attach the vault to my 2015 4Runner factory roof rack are a bit too long and when it was attached to the factory rack the reel box rubbed against the roof. It's a serious problem and designing and manufacturing the hinge more securely would have been an inexpensive improvement to the design.
